SEEA is helping Southeast Industry to Sustain Growth Through Energy Efficiency
The Southeast is the largest and fastest growing region in the United States. Accounting for 13% of the region’s GDP and employing 3.3 million workers, the industrial sector plays a vital role in the Southeast's economy. The annual growth rate for industrial GDP was 10 percent higher in the Southeast than the national average over the 2002-2007 timeframe. However, energy consumption per dollar of GDP is 17 percent higher in the Southeast than the national average.
Through increased deployment of energy efficiency, Southeast manufacturers will reduce energy cost per unit of output, increase productivity, create or retain jobs and reduce the need for new utility resources - all resulting in improved global competitiveness.
